Horizon Audible Audio Edition Barry Lopez James Naughton Random House Audio Books Reviews

  • Fantastic narratives that may well surpass the work of "Arctic Dreams." 30 years in the making. Written in the beautiful style Lopez's readers have come to know and admire since the 1970s. Read it, and then give copies to your loved ones and best friends.
  • This book strikes me as lazy, which may be unfair on my part. The author re visits many locations he has written about in the past. You need to be a very serious Barry Lopez can to enjoy this book. It is somewhere between an autobiography and a greatest hits collecton.
  • A defining work of our beloved mature and brilliant observer. Precise, penetrating and contemplative.
More reflective and accepting yet piercing and articulate! A thoughtful and provocative work of distilled wisdom.
  • I loved “Of Wolves and Men”, “Arctic Dreams”, “Crow and Weasel”, and “Homeground”. And there is some very beautifully descriptive and thoughtful writing in this book. But in this age of accelerating climate change which Lopez acknowledges, we can no longer afford the luxury of all the travel he writes about. I worry that it will encourage too many others to follow his lead. The latest IPCC report says we have to reduce our climate change gas output 45% in the next 10 years. An almost impossible task, especially so if the rate of airline travel keeps growing at its current rate. I prefer books more grounded in one particular area that are descriptive and thoughtful about those areas. As Gary Snyder said “The most radical thing you can do is to stay home.” And learn the details there, dig into the work, build community, and praise the beauty there.
  • This is a tremendous book. Lopez in a pensive, troubled, self-critical, or perhaps better phrased, a self-questioning mood. What is it to travel? What does the traveller learn, take away, and importantly what does he or she take along with them? I can't recall a book in recent years that I've been this immersed in.
  • Fluffy travel memoir at best.

Dr. Tommy John's unique program a diet, lifestyle, and movement plan (Rethink. Rebuild. Replenish. Recover) for injury- and performance-proofing young athletes in every sport

Beginning as early as age 6 and continuing through the teenage years and on into their twenties, both male and female athletes are more at risk of serious injuries at younger ages than ever before. Dr. Tommy John, son of lefty pitcher Tommy John and also a sports performance and healing specialist, offers an invaluable diet, lifestyle, and movement plan (Rethink. Rebuild. Replenish. Recover) for injury- and performance-proofing young athletes in every sport. Dr. John explores the sudden rise of Tommy John surgeries being performed on young athletes today, as well as the many injuries--and the surgeries required to fix them--increasing at an alarming rate in baseball and all youth sports. Dr. John's book outlines the three top causes behind this "injury epidemic" The American lifestyle, the business of youth sports (from coaches to corporations), and the decisions we believe as parents are truly benefiting our children. Minimize Injury, Maximize Performance focuses on prevention, and also offers tips on how to tailor the advice for athletes coming back from an injury, with over 120 black and white photographs.

Minimize Injury Maximize Performance A Sports Parent Survival Guide Dr Tommy John Myatt Murphy Tommy John Books Reviews

  • Finally made it to print! I have been working with this system for the last 5 years with great success personally and among my peers. I am very excited to see it in a form I can now lend out or encourage folks to buy. The message for youth sports is quite clear, and the holistic approach here is a menu for successfully navigating that issues that cause so much disruption to whole lives, not to mention immediate success in sports. But for those of us who are no longer children (chronologically), this program applied to injured adults that I know has enabled bodies to heal separated shoulders, torn UCL, debilitating lumbar spine pain, herniated cervical disk distress, horrific undiagnosable recurrent headaches... the list goes on. Personally it has helped me recover from two hip replacements (due to issues that predated my exposure to this program), to the point where I can hike mountains all day without muscle fatigue or soreness - just by doing 5 minute lunges or squats. I would recommend this book and program to anyone looking to get functionally strong and happy about their physical health and options for the future.
  • By following TJ's advice, I have become much more fit and much more knowledgeable about the incredible power of the body to repair itself from injury and prepare itself for optimal performance. Based on scientific research, the book is a straightfoward, easy-to-understand manual that provides a program to put people in the best possible position possible to succeed in whatever they want to do -- whether that includes becoming an elite athlete or simply becoming more active in daily activities.
    Pete Fawcett

This is a must read! By following Dr. Tommy John's advice, I was able to play Division 1 tennis at my highest level. I reduced the time I was injured, and felt like I was able to perform with more confidence because of my level of fitness. Not only has Tommy John's advice helped me with tennis, but in life as a whole. Thank you TJ!
    Tom Fawcett
  • As a current baseball coach for athletes of various ages, I am constantly looking for methods to keep our athletes healthy so they can perform their best on the field. After face-timing with Dr. Tommy John almost a year ago to the day, I had confidence in the approach I was going to take with our athletes based on his research and results. It wasn't and still isn't complicated stuff. It's BODY MOVEMENT. It's EATING RIGHT. It's all a LIFESTYLE.

I can't put this book down. The book provides a reinforcement of what I have learned and gives me extreme detail on what I want to learn. I really appreciate Dr. Tommy for understanding the goals these athletes have set forth, and providing not only them, but myself as a coach, a great tool to hold on to for the rest of our lives.
  • This is the most informative, honest and real book on how to guide your kids though childhood sports. As a former 9 year professional baseball player and athlete who played multiple sports growing up (with no lessons and no year round individual sport focus) I can attest to the information presented by Dr. John and will be applying this information with my own three kids. Thank you Tommy!!
  • I received this book a short while ago but from just diving into it a little I can already tell it is a winner! Very comprehensive while also laid out in an easy-to-consume manner, it makes taking in a wealth of knowledge completely non-overwhelming. From following Dr. Tommy John on other platforms, I know his style of delivery (purely informative coupled with thinking beyond conventional methods sprinkled with doses of humor), and I think he has an amazing mindset and perspective on things which is beneficial to kids and adults alike. Can't wait to take in the rest of the book and implement the tactics with my son. Thanks TJ for creating a movement around a topic that is so important and yet so neglected these days!
  • YOU HAVE TO GET THIS BOOK! I have been following Dr. Tommy Johns method for almost 4 years! No gimics with Tommy John!
  • My family and I have been working with Dr. John for nearly a year now. The changes I've seen in our bodies has been amazing. In our sports-crazed world it is wonderful to find someone that sees the body as a whole system and approach fitness as a lifestyle, not a means to an end. Nutrition. Balance. Strength. Emotional health. Inside out. Feet to head.

    Thank you Dr. John
  • At first glance i thought this was going to be just a baseball book. But after getting through it, it offers so much more for every human athlete—young, old, male, female. I especially loved the recipes and recovery techniques as I was unfamiliar with many of them. Dr John really keeps it simple which seems like what we need more of these days in youth sports and on life.

"[W]ildly inventive...In Oyeyemi's hands, a simple premise becomes a story about class, myth, and dark family histories. Her prose is not without its playful bite." (Vogue)

The prize-winning, best-selling author of Boy, Snow, Bird and What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours returns with a bewitching and imaginative novel.

Influenced by the mysterious place gingerbread holds in classic children's stories, beloved novelist Helen Oyeyemi invites listeners into a delightful tale of a surprising family legacy, in which the inheritance is a recipe.

Perdita Lee may appear to be your average British schoolgirl; Harriet Lee may seem just a working mother trying to penetrate the school social hierarchy; but there are signs that they might not be as normal as they think they are. For one thing, they share a gold-painted seventh-floor walk-up apartment with some surprisingly verbal vegetation. And then there's the gingerbread they make. Londoners may find themselves able to take or leave it, but it's very popular in Druhástrana, the faraway (or, according to many sources, nonexistent) land of Harriet Lee's early youth. The world's truest lover of the Lee family gingerbread, however, is Harriet's charismatic childhood friend Gretel Kercheval - a figure who seems to have had a hand in everything (good or bad) that has happened to Harriet since they met.

Decades later, when teenaged Perdita sets out to find her mother's long-lost friend, it prompts a new telling of Harriet's story. As the book follows the Lees through encounters with jealousy, ambition, family grudges, work, wealth, and real estate, gingerbread seems to be the one thing that reliably holds a constant value. Endlessly surprising and satisfying, written with Helen Oyeyemi's inimitable style and imagination, it is a true feast for the listener.

"This is gonna be a love-it-or-hate-it read for many people. Fans of Oyeymei know that she's always got something up her sleeve so this one, which is sort of kind of a retelling of Hansel and Gretel (but not) is fun to read even when you're a little confused about what's happening. Harriet and Perdita, the mother/daughter leads, are terrific characters. What's up with Drushastrana? Hmmm. How to explain this one? I'm not sure. I do know that the writing is lovely and while the plot might not be immediately accessible, it's a fun read. Thanks to edelweiss for the ARC. This is worth a try for fans of literary fiction and interesting language."

Gingerbread A Novel Audible Audio Edition Helen Oyeyemi Penguin Audio Books Reviews :

Gingerbread A Novel Audible Audio Edition Helen Oyeyemi Penguin Audio Books Reviews

  • I was taken in by the clever language in this book. I say clever rather than pretty because I was more impressed by Oyeyemi's sharp, clean insights into human nature than by beautiful descriptive prose. In the true spirit of magical realism, many of the stranger elements in the book (like Perdita's talking half-plant dolls) aren't exactly explained. They are just accepted.

Many reviews state that the plot of the story is difficult to follow. I did not necessarily find this to be true, especially after the first two chapters. However you should be prepared for quick, sometimes improbable plot twists. And don't expect to have all your questions neatly tied up with a bow on top by the end of the book.

Other than that, enjoy the treat!
  • I loved the NYTimes review of this book; I even loved the writing for about two-thirds of the book because it forces a reader to pay attention rather than skim -- something the Times' reviewer indicated was the case. After a while, the writing -- especially the stream-of-consciousness style seemed contrived -- and I just grew tired and bored by it all. I stopped caring about the human characters and only wanted to read what the dolls had to say. I only have about 40 pages left and I can't bring myself to finish it. Maybe one day, I'll look at a doll and get inspried to finish it, but until then...Perdita, Margot, Gretel etal will stay closed away in my copy as I move on to other things.
  • This is gonna be a love-it-or-hate-it read for many people. This is worth a try for fans of literary fiction and interesting language.
  • I was really looking forward to reading this book, but I found it very disjointed and hard to follow.
The writing would pull me in briefly, for example when Perdita was in the hospital, and I would think I was understanding the characters and starting to get to know them, and then the story would go off on a wild, weird tangent. I kept pushing through until page 102, and then I finally decided that was enough, life was too short to be forcing myself to continue when it was so frustrating and I wasn't enjoying the book.
  • I like to think I'm at least average in skills of interpreting literature, but I have no clue what I just read. I know, I know. I was forewarned there were magical elements. I get that gingerbread is metaphorical, a staple of fairy tales, a twist on bread of life. Or death, as the case may be. Fabulous (As in "related to fables") houses abound (Gingerbread houses, anyone?) Dolls talk. The allegory spins out of control and murder lurks. I'm sure book clubs everywhere are serving gingerbread and those wonderful paper thin Moravian gingerbread cookies. But I recommend having some Malbec available for when they--rapidly--get into "what the actual hey" territory.
  • Oyeyemi's prose is a thing to behold. This book is a fun and entertaining read as well as a work of art.
  • Bought because recommended. Disappointed. Boring nonsense.
    One star for cute cover.
  • Weird, but I liked it. I think.
Settle in, get started and keep going. This is a strange story that gets stranger, but has some really wonderful messages along the way, interesting characters, a bit of magic and folklore sprinkled in the contemporary world. Maybe brew a pot of tea first.

Revealing the tensions between his personal struggles as a mortal grappling with desire and his public persona as a spiritual and political figurehead, this book examines Gandhi’s educational efforts―his curriculum and pedagogy. Exploring the ways he used personal triumphs and pitfalls in his teaching of the public, it considers the extent to which educators’ own lived histories frame their present outlooks and beliefs and exert influence on their curriculum and pedagogy. By highlighting such interrelationships, it situates the teaching life of Mahatma Gandhi at the center of perennial problems and questions in the curriculum field negotiating the borders been educative experiences and disciplinary formation, appropriate distances between teachers and students, and tendencies toward dominance in spite of liberatory intentions. Using post-structural, psychoanalytic, and autobiographical theories, it argues that Gandhi’s efforts to eliminate antagonisms without harming opposing subjects was as much an internal struggle as it was a struggle with social structures, one that can speak with great force to educators who recognize the pivotal roles of the personal and social in the classroom.

  • Beautiful story about a girl and the moon. I would definitely not limit this book to a bedtime story...it is so much more. We absolutely adore A Sick Day for Amos McGee ...Philip and Erin Stead have undoubtedly created another award winner. The story is phenomenal and the illustrations are extraordinary.
  • Mysterious and magical, from the storyline to the luminous illustrations. This is what children's literature is supposed to be, especially picture books. They open doors. Take flight. And make you want to read it again and again. I borrowed a copy from the library and now I want to have a permanent copy for my bookshelf.

Save Me from Myself How I Found God Quit Korn Kicked Drugs and Lived to Tell My Story edition by Brian Welch Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

  • My 26 yr old son has been an addict since his early teens. Music has been a source of great enjoyment and comfort to him over the years, both listening and playing. He is in jail currently, so I have been trying to bring him books written by recovering addicts that he can relate to. He really loved this one! After his cellmate reads it, the book will be donated to the jail. Hopefully other inmates with similar struggles can find some hope through this story.
  • I came to this book in a roundabout way. I was looking at videos on YouTube about tattoos as I have several tats and I always like to see the work of different studios and the types of art folks choose to put on their bodies. When I came to one titled "Brian Welch of Korn Gets Tattooed", I had to have a look at this wild-looking long-haired guy. He told a bit of his story to the artist and I was intrigued, so I looked up more information on him.

I am not a Heavy Metal fan. It gets on my nerves and gives me a headache. My musical tastes run to folk rock, bluegrass, blues and various music from other countries.I liked Van Halen in my younger years, but by today's standards I do not consider that to be true Heavy Metal. I remember hearing of Korn in the 90's but couldn't tell you a single song I knew by them. The more videos I watched of Brian and his conversion the more I realized how far away I have gotten from my Christian upbringing. I was saturated in it - Christian school where they really liked scaring us kids with films and stories about the end of time and church every Sunday and Wednesday. I was an awkward kid and was bullied a lot; subsequently I rebelled in my adolescence with drugs and drinking which continued up into my mid 20's with the drugs and into my 40s with the drinking. And horrible relationships with men always left me devastated so I have found myself at age 51 jaded and bitter. I've been Buddhist, Sufi, Wiccan and others to varying degrees, seeking peace and understanding that I could never find. Anyhow, Brian Welch's story moved me, touched a place inside me that made me realize I truly want to be a better person.

I ordered this book and read it. All the things he had done during his heyday with Korn are all things that I have either been a part of myself or witnessed others doing. He is unflinchingly honest about his responsibility in his undertakings and blames no one but himself, which is a very hard thing to do. He came to Jesus without pressure from so-called Bible thumpers, just gentle urging from some Christians he knew when he reached out to them himself, wanting what they had. His journey to Christ was fraught with doubts and insecurities and it took awhile to wean himself off Meth but by God's grace he was eventually able to do so. I've never done Meth but I have researched a lot about the devastating toll it takes on users and their families, so for Brain to be able to kick it truly is a miracle, as it so addictive that one can be hooked after one use.

This man chose God and his daughter over money and fame and drugs, at at a fairly younger age than most troubled rock stars even begin to realize something's wrong. I have listened to some of his new music that's more spiritual and I honestly still do not care for the sound, but if he can reach those who do enjoy this type of music, if he can touch their souls, then it has my blessing. He has walked the walk and I for one am more inspired by him than I ever was by the hypocrites at the school I attended as a child. I think his faith is stronger than theirs will ever be.

A note about his writing some have complained in their reviews that it is poorly written. This is not true. No, it is not a masterpiece of literature nor was it intended as such. He does get his point across in what I find to be a well-spoken manner. He is so enthusiastic about his newfound life that he reminds me a bit of the late Steve Irwin who gushed in a childlike glee over snakes, crocodiles and other dangerous reptiles. This is not meant as an insult. I find it refreshing to see someone so excited about his relationship with Christ. Yes it is a bit childlike. but he was as a child since he was born again! I also appreciate that he shared both his "honeymoon phase" with Christianity and his dark nights of the soul when the novelty wore off.

    Well done autobiography.
  • This is an inspiring story that I'm sure was very difficult to write. It shows that even in the depths of our sin, God still relentlessly pursues us to show us that He's crazy about us! There's nothing you can do that God hasn't seen, nothing you can say that God hasn't heard. He loves you unconditionally even when you feel that you can't even love yourself. This is a true story of God's redemptive grace and His limitless passion to have a relationship with each of us.
  • Heavy - Excellent, hard to put down. Im not a big reader, and I blazed through this book. Im a fair Korn fan (not fanatic, but enjoy their concerts / cds), and have recently returned to a focus on Christianity. I couldnt put it down. Its deep and well written, with a mix of wild rock and roll life stories, substance / life addictions, depression, the story of Korn, and a deep search for life's meaning, along with an exploration of the true point of religion and Christianity. This is real and down to earth, and not for the country club christian, nor the nieve / innocent, nor those who just want to feel better. Its for real people who have struggled, asked the hard questions, made their share of mistakes, and/or struggled with faith. Its also for those who want to see real change, and understand real Christianity rather than feel good at the dog and pony show. The first half / 2/3rds is more the life story, korns story, and struggles. Its pretty raw. There is a young adult friendly version of this book which might be better for those who arent as familiar with the darker parts of the rock and roll / addiction lifestyle. The later part is not just about him coming to Christ, but also a deep exploration of what that means and doesnt mean, how his faith was strenghtened and deepened, and what leading a life for Christ is all about, through both good times and trials. Will an athiest enjoy this book - yes. Will a beginning Christan enjoy this book - yes. Will someone struggling with (any) addiction enjoy this book - probably, but likely only if they are truely interested in change. Will this book cause change? It will certainly grease the wheels and plant some seeds. It definitely teaches you some lessons you never got in sunday school. Well Done!
  • I decided to read this book after it was recommended on Goodreads and multiple times. I honestly never listened to Korn or knew anything about the band or Brian Welch. But I remembered he became a Christian and had struggled with drug addiction. I actually really enjoyed this book. It definitely shows you the dark side of the music business and touring. I particularly liked that Mr. Welch was attending a church similar to what I'm familiar with so I related to speaking in tongues and demons. Excellent book for Christians, especially those of us who aren't "perfect" Christians.
  • I always have respect for famous people who take a stand for Jesus and share their story. This book gets a little bogged down in some parts but it's a great example of how much our Father will fight for us to find our place in His plan and how patient He is with us! Great testimony! Thanks for sharing in a way that anyone can understand how to find life and balance and faith.

Measures of Success React Less Lead Better Improve More Mark Graban Donald J Wheeler PhD Books Reviews

  • In a world where we are constantly bombarded with reports - table formatted, current period vs last month, current period vs same period last year - or worse yet, multiple periods side by side, color coded red and green, we are led to believe that every up or down movement is a sign of improvement or a problem. People are sent off chasing the wind with every move in the wrong direction, searching for the answer to “what went wrong?”, when there may be no single answer. The reality is that two points don’t make a trend and data without context is meaningless. Normal variation happens.

Enter the world of the Process Behavior Chart (PBC). In Measure of Success React Less, Lead Better, Improve More, Mark offers a refreshing approach to look at what should/could happen in a process (what we should expect), and how we can filter out the noise so we can focus on real improvement. After reading the first few chapters, I was already sharing Measures of Success within my organization. The incremental time used to create and maintain a PBC is significantly less than the hours spent looking for fantasy explanations. With the free template, getting started was easy.
  • Mark has distilled the issue of variation in business systems into simple language, making it usable for anyone with basic excel skills. Avoiding the over complicated hyperbole of some works on this subject, he lays out an easy way to measure and manage business systems that concentrates precious improvement resources on the results that matter, not the noise in the system. It’s so simple in fact, that one of its main flaws is having staff and management accept its validity, but valid it is, and anyone in a work environment with continually varying results would do well to spend the time learning and applying these methods.

For anyone versed in the art, the biggest discomfort is the use of the constants to calculate the upper and lower limits. The calculation methodology is outside of the scope of the book, which is explained, and clear references are given to the reader who wishes to delve deeper.

All in all an excellent book. One I know I’m going to be using a lot. Thanks Mark!
  • Distinguishing the 'signal' from the 'noise' in performance has long been a challenge for many. Measures of Success is a refreshingly digestible read for anyone interested in learning how to use process behavior charts to understand true performance, and when to react - or not to react. Mark does a great job of breaking down what is typically taught in an academic matter into easy-to-understand concepts with a focus on real-life application. The book uses tangible examples of how process behavior charts help us avoid the traps of vanity metrics and overreaction to data. I wish I had this book when I was learning complicated control charts in my six sigma training - my learning curve would have been greatly accelerated. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to truly understand what the data are - and are not - telling us, and how to react appropriately. If you're looking on how to take performance to the next level, applying the principles explained in Measures of Success will help.
  • Once again, the award winning author, consultant, blogger and Lean Healthcare expert Mark Graban has written an exceptional book about a little-known concept of interpreting metrics without going insane-- Process Behavior Charts. This book not only explains the rationale of PBCs, the creation of PBCs and the interpretation the charts in a very thorough and understandable manner, it also shows its connection to the Lean mindset of continuous improvement and A3 thinking.

As a former small animal hospital owner, I wish I had been aware of this information back then. It certainly would have helped calm the rollercoaster of emotions of trying to manage a business through metrics and KPIs.

Yes, this is a form of statistical analysis, but do not let that scare you. This is not rocket science ( or veterinary medicine), especially the way Mr. Graban explains it.

Anyone in business or in charge of monitoring systems will find this book an epiphany! At least, it was for me.
  • I am a registered nurse who leads quality for a small community hospital. I read Mark’s “Lean Hospital” book and was thrilled to buy “Measures of Success”. They are life changing.

Understanding and applying lean methodology in healthcare is crucial to improving patient safety and care. I want everyone in my leadership team and all our staff to read and embrace both books. (Probably won’t happen, but one could dream?)

Measures of success is so well done! Thanks for helping this data geek along.
  • Use Process Behavior Charts, (term for Statistical Control Charts coined by Donald Wheeler) to avoid looking for answers to insignificant changes in Key Performance Indicators, and spend the time to make fundamental improvements to the processes that produces the resultant KPI numbers.

Mark Graban has written a quick read book to encourage a new way of thinking about KPIs that gives more insight into how to decide where to invest improvement efforts.
  • This book is very well written to be able experience value immediately. Before I finished the first three chapters I started creating Process Behavior Charts (PBC) to replace almost a dozen combination bar/line charts for several weekly executive reporting scorecards. Each of the continuous improvement processes I was reporting on showed different conditions including mean shifts, constant trending improvement, and predictable variation. Each scenario prompted questions about how those should be best represented graphically with recalculated process control limits and Mark Graban's book had practical answers to all the questions. The PBC's bring an order of magnitude better clarity to the processes being measured and when they should be acted upon. Measures of Success is a model of practitioner usability for everyone from novice, executive, and even a rusty Six Sigma Black Belt like myself.

10 Actual Official LSAT PrepTests Law School Admission Council 9780979305047 Books Reviews

  • After taking maybe 20 of the more recent PrepTests and the 10 in this book, it's clear that these are outdated. They're fine for getting into studying for the LSAT, but they don't give a good indication of what questions are like now. I found the Logical Reasoning section to be much easier in these, and the Reading Comprehension doesn't have the comparative reading passages like the current test. After going through these tests, I saw my scores on more recent PrepTests go down.
  • Chances are, if you're reading this review, you're prepping for the LSAT, which is what this book is meant to do. However, if you get the chance, try and do the next two sets before this one. There are two pretty big changes between this book and the newer questions (in both the green/purple one (Tests 52-61) and silver-y (Tests 62-71) LSAT preptest books)

    1) Comparative Passages. Yeah, this one has them in the front of the book, but it's hard to use those to simulate test-taking conditions.
    2) Logic Games in this one are wicked hard relative to the newer tests. For example, one of the Logic Games in this book has three different conditions for each of several slots (I think it's like five callers on a radio show, each with names, from three different cities, and either taped or live). In short, it's a heck of a lot worse than most of the newer games are, with a lot more to balance around in your head.

Otherwise, it's the same old LSAT they've been administering for ages. I mean you can get some chuckles about clearly dated passages on technology (like one which criticizes online order processing!) and society, but by-and-large most of this book is roughly similar to the present test.

Another quirk about this one is that because the questions in this test are harder, the curve at the top end is a bit gentler. This essentially means that if you're able to do these tests, your score may not be as representative of your test day score as the new ones would be because in a lot of the tests you can miss 12 or more and still score a 170 (from Form 2LSS53). This doesn't hold true for a lot of newer tests (for example, on the 8LSN75 June 2007 test you can only miss 8 for the same score), so just be wary that the LSAT taking population has changed since the early 2000's boom time when this book's tests were scaled.

If you're using it as an early practice, go for it, but otherwise pick more recent tests, as those will be more like what you'll be taking on Test Day. Though, if you are using these books, it's still really useful to have a general prepbook to use for questions you're weakest on.
  • As another reviewer stated, if you are only taking 10 practice tests, these shouldn't be the ones you get. If you are doing 20+ practice tests, this is a great purchase.
Most of the old tests are good for practice. Even without comparative passages, the reading comprehension is still good for drilling.
But, before spending time on the older tests, make sure your study plan already has the newer tests accounted for closer to the test.
  • Great set of tests for studying for the LSAT. They include the tests, answer key, score breakdown, and test answer sheets in the back of the book. The only thing that would be nice is if there were explanations for the answers, but then the book would be much longer. Overall this is great for studying for the LSAT, but not 100% necessary if you have a tight budget for studying. These tests are older so while they are still great for studying you are better off buying test packets that includes tests that are more recent.
  • Decided to go to law school and the next LSAT's were in a month. I only had four weeks to prepare and had been our of school for a 25 years. No test prep classes were available so I decided to try these books. After a few weeks my averages on the practice tests improved to over 160. If you decide to try these just be sure to review your wrong answers.
  • If you're studying for the LSAT, this is the only thing that you should be using. These are actual tests that have been administered. Why waste your time with other options that are only LSAT-like questions that people have written to mimic those of the LSAT?
  • It's not as if these tests don't have some value, but don't make the mistake that I did. On these tests I found logical reasoning and reading comprehension to be much easier than on newer tests, while logic games were more difficult.

If you are just practicing logic games or doing timing practice there is value in doing these tests, but as test day gets closer it is far better idea to use the more recent prep tests to practice. I saw a 5 point drop in my score when I took a new test after taking these.
  • If you're studying for the LSAT, I'd recommend taking at least 20-30 practice tests. Forget about the expensive classes. These books are the key to learning how to take the test.
